Day 1 – Windsor Castle and Eton

After an early start we took the 9.00am train from Richmond bound for Windsor and Eton Riverside. The programme was coffee on arrival, watch the changing of the guard at 11.00am followed by a tour of the state apartments to include seeing the collection of the Queens dresses. Lunch followed at Gilbeys on Eton High street.

Had a good time looking at the wildlife photographer of the year at museum, after which to kill time a pint in the Red Cow. Then off to our hosts for the evening and getting thrashed at the board game ‘London Game’

Today is Andy’s degree day at Harrogate. All his family, Ros and I are going. We will follow this by a belly buster at some Italian Restaurant in Harrogate before returning to Bellerby where the Casson’s will spend the Weekend.

Ripon Cathedral

Wednesday we had a trip out to see Ripon Cathedral. In many ways this place is just as impressive as the nearby York Minster

Of particular interest are the organ pipes some of which are huge and quite a distance from the organ keyboard, which now seems to have a duplicate at the top of the knave.

The choir stalls are decorated with intricate carvings one of which is a rabbit disappearing down a hole. Often thought to be inspiration for Lewis Carol who’s father was closely connected with the cathedral.
